Saskatchewan alcohol in schools
The schools in Saskatchewan are having some problems with smoking, alcohol and some other illicit substances. A study was conducted to determine the impact of said substances on the province’s youth. The study showed that alcohol was a predominant factor. Out of all the people they surveyed, only 13 percent said that they didn’t drink alcohol. There were 25 percent of the students that admitted to drinking alcoholic beverages on a regular basis. And finally they recorded that 62 percent of every person interviewed drank on some occasions.
This study also showed other interesting facts about alcohol. It seems that alcohol is related to another bad habit, smoking. Some people said that they only smoked when they drank alcohol. This goes to show that alcohol is a bad influence in many various ways.
Also it would seem that women really do drink less than men, according to this study. The records also showed that people who drink a lot of alcohol are often the people who drink alcohol very often. Those two facts seemed to come together often enough.
Drunk Driving
Drunk driving is a big factor in Saskatchewan and it affects even more people than are reported on the statistics. There were over 159 people who were killed in traffic highways. And most of them, over 95 percent had alcohol involved in the car crash in some way or another. Out of those 159, 70 of them were because of drunk driving, it was the one major factor in those crashes. That makes around 46 percent of all fatalities.
Those kinds of statistics show us how bad alcohol behind the wheel really is. People, when they take alcohol and go behind the wheel, not only hurt themselves but they sometimes hurt other human beings in the process, that doesn’t take into account of the people that were close to the victims. It seems that the statistics are declining a little bit more each year, but it is not happening fast enough for a lot of people are still taking lives on the highways under the influence of alcohol.
With all of those things, it is obvious that alcohol is a big concern for the Saskatchewan law officials. The rate of overall substance abuse, that includes alcohol, marijuana and other types of drugs, is of over 14 percent, which is in the highest rate for all of Canada. Needless to say that the authorities are going to have their hands full handling this problem.
