There were 153 people who were injured in car crashes in 2003. And almost half of it was alcohol related injuries and car crashes. Nova Scotia authorities have their hands full with dunk driving as most of the accidents are related to alcohol in some way.

Substance abuse, which includes drug abuse and alcohol abuse, is a big factor in Nova Scotia. The rate of substance abuse in Nova Scotia is one of the highest of all provinces with a 14 percent substance abuse rate. It is the highest rate of substance abuse equal with Saskatchewan.
